For example, board games. I’m of the mind that all of the really good board games have already been invented. Scrabble, Boggle, Sorry, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Pass the Pigs (okay there are lots more but I can’t think of them right now.) But my point is that most of the games that are classics, that really, really work and are fun to play, were invented a long time ago, and most of the new games that are coming out right now are just not that fun. All the good games have already been invented.
Here’s another case in point. Candy bars. The classics: Reece’s Reanut Butter Cups, Nestle Crunch, Snickers, Milky Way, Three Musketeers (okay, again the list could go on and on), have been around forever. New candy bars come out all the time, but do any of them really catch on? Not really.
There are probably other cagtegories of goods that fit this description, but I don’t really feel like taxing my brain any more that I already have. So here’s my pick for something that will never exhaust itself: books. Lots of people claim that there are only a fixed number of stories: 64; 20 or even only 2. But the amazing thing is that they can be retold in an infinite number of ways!
Yay books!
Okay, so now you probably have 5000 exceptions to my rule bouncing around in your head, so if you must, release them onto the comments page.
And THIRD GRADE BABY will be in bookstores Fall 2008!

There is a saying: There is nothing new under the sun. In the case of candy, most of the new stuff is really a reworking of the original candy bars. For instance, the idea of a cookie mixed in with Reese’s peanut butter cups borrows from Butterfingers and Reese’s and Twix and Kit Kat.
In other words, before we can think of a new concept, we must be familiar with all the elements associated that concept, and rework it to make it new.
Just my two cents.

I like the Take 5 bar – it has chocolate, cookie crust, caramel, pretzels, and peanuts.
Yummy!

I do not remember the name of a certain candy bar, but it was around when I was younger. It had four chocolate squares joined together, shaped so that you could break one off. Each was filled with a flavor. One was filled with caramel, and it was so gooey when you pulled it apart, then one had nougat, which is this creamy cream colored filling, then there was chocolate cream, and the last one I can’t remember, maybe a fruity thing, I don’t know, cuz I sure didn’t eat it if it was fruity. But by the time I had the nougat and caramel, I was satisfied, so I was okay with not eating the fourth square. If anybody my age remembers the name of this candy bar, I sure wish you could let me know.
By the way, remember the large size Three Musketeers? which came with indentations so that it could be broken? My twin sister and I and our friend Nita Rafales used to share it. Guess who always got the middle, the piece without the extra chocolate on the side? So if you want to make me happy, just give me the extra chocolate.
